“You go into some of these small towns in Pennsylvania, and like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothing’s replaced them,” Obama said. “And they fell through the Clinton Administration, and the Bush Administration, and each successive administration has said that somehow these communities are gonna regenerate and they have not. And it’s not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren’t like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.”
In 1995, Obama's first autobiography is released. In it he writes of his years in college, associating with radicals. "To avoid being mistaken for a sellout, I chose my friends carefully. The more politically active black students. The foreign students. The Chicanos. The Marxist professors and structural feminists and punk rock performance poets . . . When we ground out our cigarettes in the hallway carpet or set our stereos so loud that the walls began to shake, we were resisting bourgeois society's stifling constraints. We weren't indifferent or careless or insecure. We were alienated."
[Obama, Barack, "Dreams from My Father: A Story of Race and Inheritance,
Random House, Pages 100-101]
"I fell in love with my country when I was a prisoner in someone else's, I loved it not just for the many comforts of life here. I loved it for its decency, for its faith in the wisdom, justice and goodness of its people. I loved it because it was not just a place, but an idea, a cause worth fighting for. I was never the same again. I wasn't my own man anymore. I was my country's."
~John McCain

I seriously cannot get over how great Tina Fey was as Sarah Palin. Wow! It's just too bad John McCain didn't pick Tina Fey instead.
You poll choices in the 'lipstick' poll need to include another option "first, Obama wasn't referring to Palin, which is a fact that the right wing neo-con fool talk show hosts know, and second, McCain actually did use the same expression in reference to Hillary Clinton and nobody, not one right wing, neo-con talk show host fool said 'boo' about it then because, of course, they are right wing, neo-con fools who make a boat load of money pandering the worst garbage to the hard working listeners just trying to make a living in this country that's been ruined by these fools." There, that's the answer I would vote for!
