Ayers Has Not Left Radicalism Behind

Election '08: Bill Ayers isn't out bombing anymore, but he has never stopped being a radical. His ties to hostile Marxist regimes remain, raising more questions about Barack Obama's refusal to fully repudiate him.

Distancing himself, as Obama did, from the "detestable acts" of the founder of the Weather Underground terror organization, is one thing. Ayers' terror attacks — in armed robbery, police murder, attempted killings of U.S. troops, and bombings of U.S. democratic institutions to advance a Marxist revolution — were quite easy to disavow.

But Ayers' supporters say his violence was all a long time ago.

Obama emphasized that his friend's terror acts happened "when I was eight years old." Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley told the New York Times last week "he's done a lot of good in this city and nationally." He added: "This is 2008. People make mistakes. You judge a person by his whole life."
But a look at Ayers' whole life suggests he hasn't changed much more than his tactics. He's still the same radical he always was.

Ayers' terrorist acts in the 1970s didn't just blow in out of nowhere. Ayers moved to urban guerrilla violence after finding Tom Hayden's riot-prone Students for a Democratic Society too tame. He was inspired by the Cuban revolution of Fidel Castro, who toppled a democracy a decade earlier.
Ayers' Weathermen were part of a broad upsurge of Marxist guerrilla movements across the hemisphere, using similar tactics to establish Cuba-style regimes. These children of the rich infiltrated universities and spread violence against the "establishment," just as Ayers did.

At the time Ayers was targeting the Pentagon, Argentina's communist ERP began terror attacks in 1969, triggering a Dirty War by 1976. Brazil's MR-8 shot police and kidnapped a U.S. ambassador in 1969. In Colombia, the FARC unleashed terror in 1966, and the M-19 was born in 1970. Uruguay's Tupamaros began bombing and kidnapping in 1970. Peru's Shining Path started university agitation in 1973 and full-blown war by 1980. The Weather Underground, founded in 1969, was the same leftist revolution, U.S.-style.

Operating underground, Ayers' Weathermen aligned closely with Castro's Cuba, which aided Marxist terror groups. Some Weathermen on the run found asylum in Havana; others, like Mark Rudd, were trained by the KGB there. Cuba helped Weathermen on the lam by letting them secretly pass messages through Cuba's embassy in Canada, says FBI informant Larry Grathwohl.

Like many at the time, Ayers was a child of privilege from a wealthy family who got away with his crimes at a time when the West had lost its will. "Guilty as sin, free as a bird — America is a great country," Ayers taunted after walking free on a technicality.

Ayers is too smart to continue bombing, but remains a "revolutionary" through other means. He remains proud of his violent past and alignment with America's enemies.

"I don't regret setting bombs," he famously told the New York Times. "I feel we didn't do enough." His terrorist past reviled here, he's found a welcome embrace in Hugo Chavez's Venezuela.

Obama says he barely knows him, but in the years when he was meeting and serving together on the Annenberg Challenge and the Woods Fund, as well as launching his career with a fundraiser in Ayers' Che Guevara-festooned house, Ayers made at least four Marxist pilgrimages to Caracas to praise Chavez's dictatorial regime.

He sits on the board of a Venezuelan government think tank called Miranda International Center, focused on bringing Cuba-style education to Venezuelan school children.

Recent polls show this turning of schools toward Marxist indoctrination terrifies average Venezuelans. Venezuelan dissidents also accuse Miranda of rewriting constitutions in South America to grant leftist leaders absolute power, with some saying Ayers had a role in 2007's effort to give Chavez total power inside Venezuela.

It's not surprising. Ayers' violent methods may have influenced Chavez's rise to power in 1998. Like Ayers' terrorists, Chavez's campaign began with Weather Underground-style hijackings of bank trucks. At the same time, captured computer documents show that Chavez took $150,000 from FARC while in prison.

Ayers' Miranda biography calls him "leader of the revolutionary and anti-imperialist group The Weather Underground which initiated armed struggle against the government of the USA for more than 10 years from the heart of the empire."

It continues: "Now, he's a professor of education and executive researcher of the University of Illinois in Chicago. He's developed courses around urban reform of schools, problems of capitalist education, and research. He is the author or editor of more than 11 books, including a memoir titled Fugitive Days on the struggle against the government of the United States."

In other words, education isn't the best credential for this supposedly distinguished professor — his terrorist past is.

It's a good guess that his biography on the Miranda site was written by Ayers himself. Ayers' Miranda peers are a soup of the international far left: a FARC apologist from Colombia, a Che-crazy UCLA professor named Peter McLaren, and activist Eva Golinger, who was closely tied to Philip Agee, the fugitive CIA traitor who died earlier this year in Havana.

Meanwhile, Ayers' stepson Chesa Boudin has close Venezuelan ties, too. He identified himself as a foreign-policy adviser intern to Venezuela's government in 2005. He had an office next to Chavez's own in the presidential palace. Not surprising, since Boudin's grandfather is Fidel Castro's personal attorney, and his mother is jailed Weather Underground terrorist Kathy Boudin. His family ties give him street cred to communists.

This, then, is Bill Ayers.

Obama claims he had no idea about his terrorist past when he met him, and hasn't talked to him since 2005.

But with the association going back to the 1980s and Ayers making no secret of his radical views, this is hard to believe.

Given glowing profiles of Ayers and his past in the Chicago Tribune, as writer Jonah Goldberg found, and Ayers' radical agenda in education and philanthropy while Obama and Ayers served on charitable projects, it's hard to imagine anything but a deep bond.

The reality is, either Obama is naive or he doesn't care that Ayers remains an anti-American radical who would hurt his country.

His ties to the rising radicalism in Latin America continue. Could anything be more useful to Chavez than to have someone like Ayers as a go-between with a U.S. president? Obama still has repudiated only Ayers' past terrorist actions. What about his present?

William Ayers gives exclusive interview to "Good Morning America"

Just who is William Ayers? You'll have a chance to see for yourself when Chris Cuomo conducts a live interview with the Chicago activist on Friday's "Good Morning America" on WFTV-Channel 9.

Ayers' past associations with President-elect Barack Obama became a campaign issue. This is Ayers' first interview since the election.

Ayers was a founder of the Weather Undeground, a radical group that set bombs to protest the Vietnam War. Because of Ayers, Gov. Sarah Palin complained that Obama did "pal around with terrorists who targeted their own country."

Sen. John McCain described Ayers and wife Bernardine Dohrn as "two washed-up terrorists that are unrepentant about trying to destroy America."

These days, Ayers is a school-reform advocate and a professor of education at the University of Illinois at Chicago. He is also an author, and his 2001 memoir "Fugitive Days" has been reissued. Ayers and Obama live in the same neighborhood, have sat on the same boards and are friendly. But Obama also condemned the violence and noted that he was just 8 years old when it happened.*

Creepy Comrades: The Ayers-Chavez Connection

In a recent post I referred to a speech unrepentant domestic terrorist and Obama associate Bill Ayers delivered in Caracas, Venezuela, to the 2006 World Education Forum, sponsored by UNESCO. His text is full of Marxist rhetoric, but that's just Marxist Ayers being Ayers. He's also a professor of education, and there's nothing unusual about his presence at a global forum on education sponsored by an arm of the United Nations.But dig down below the topsoil, and you will discover that the ties between Ayers and Chavez run deeper than his appearance at an academic forum which just happened to be held in Venezuela that year.

Andy Martin, an investigative journalist who looked into the Ayers-Chavez and Ayers-Obama connections blogged about it back in May:

The Ayers connection with Venezuela's dictator Hugo Chavez has also not surfaced in the MSMs. It is a time bomb waiting to explode. We make the connection today for the first time.Chavez' alleged associates were indicted in Miami for trying to funnel illegal campaign cash to Argentina. Can Chavez be planning similar machinations on behalf of Obama? Only Chavez and Ayers know. The fact that Ayers is totally unrepentant, and continues to associate with vicious dictators who espouse violent revolution, makes the Ayers/Obama/Chavez connection one with long legs through November. The fact that a Chavez stooge recently pleaded guilty to participation in the Venezuelan campaign cash scheme raises the bar in so far as possible Venezuelan intervention in the U.S. campaign is concerned.

Interesting stuff, but the case for the Ayers-Obama link has long been established, even if the Old Media is just now being dragged kicking and screaming to report on it. As for the Ayers-Chavez link, there's hardly any convincing evidence in Martin's post for it. He did, however, crack open the door, and now we are getting a peek inside.In an excellent IBD editorial, Terrorists For Obama, the editors of Investor's Business Daily mentioned another link between the domestic terrorist Ayers and Chavez' Venezuelan dictatorship:

That Ayers' totalitarian revolutionary agenda isn't history is shown by Ayers today sitting on the directorate of the Miranda International Center, a think tank funded by the Venezuelan government of Hugo Chavez, unofficially a state sponsor of terror that just last weekend was found to be hosting terror training camps with Cuban and FARC operatives to attack its neighbors. Ayers is both a hero and adviser to Hugo Chavez and a colleague of Obama's.

A brief resume of Ayers on the Venezuelan government site describes him as "the leader of the revolutionary and anti-imperialist group The Weather Underground which initiated struggle against the government of the USA," which it calls "the empire."American Thinker's A.M. Mora y Leon found that profile of Ayers on the Venezuelan government Web site, and she provides a translation here.In two videos, here and here, Ayers shares his thoughts on education, social justice and revolution with Luis Bonilla-Molina, Miranda's president, while Che looks above it all from his portrait on the wall.There are, of course, no direct links which tie Obama directly to the Chavez regime, but there are a couple of interesting revelations which came to light, thanks to the capture by Colombian law enforcement officials of a laptop computer that had belonged to a rebel leader killed in a Colombian raid on a FARC encampment in Ecuador. According to documents found on the computer's hard drive, Chavez transferred $300 million to the revolutionaries. In another document the FARC leader had recorded his analysis of Barack Obama, and what a potential President Obama's policy toward the country the rebels were at war with would look like:

"The gringos will ask for an appointment with the minister to solicit him to communicate to us his interest in discussing these topics. They say that the new president of their country will be Obama and that they are interested in your compatriots. Obama will not support 'Plan Colombia' nor will he sign the TLC (Colombian Free Trade agreement). Here we responded that we are interested in relations with all governments in equality of conditions and that in the case of the US it is required a public pronouncement expressing their interest in talking with the FARC given their eternal war against us."

Given Obama's opposition to the Colombian Free Trade Agreement, and given his determination to meet, without preconditions, such enemies of the United States and her allies as Hugo Chavez, you don't need a weatherman to know which way Marxists in Latin America are hoping our presidential election blows.

Today's must-read: after months of investigation, in which he had to weather all manner of stonewalling and intimidation by the Obama camp, Stanley Kurtz finally has the story, in today's Wall Street Journal, of Barack Obama's involvement in unrepentant former terrorist Bill Ayers' project to spread left-wing politics under the guise of 'education' in Chicago schools. Here's a flavor of Ayers' project:

CAC translated Mr. Ayers's radicalism into practice. Instead of funding schools directly, it required schools to affiliate with "external partners," which actually got the money. Proposals from groups focused on math/science achievement were turned down. Instead CAC disbursed money through various far-left community organizers, such as the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (or Acorn).

Mr. Obama once conducted "leadership training" seminars with Acorn, and Acorn members also served as volunteers in Mr. Obama's early campaigns. External partners like the South Shore African Village Collaborative and the Dual Language Exchange focused more on political consciousness, Afrocentricity and bilingualism than traditional education. CAC's in-house evaluators comprehensively studied the effects of its grants on the test scores of Chicago public-school students. They found no evidence of educational improvement.

CAC also funded programs designed to promote "leadership" among parents. Ostensibly this was to enable parents to advocate on behalf of their children's education. In practice, it meant funding Mr. Obama's alma mater, the Developing Communities Project, to recruit parents to its overall political agenda. CAC records show that board member Arnold Weber was concerned that parents "organized" by community groups might be viewed by school principals "as a political threat." Mr. Obama arranged meetings with the Collaborative to smooth out Mr. Weber's objections.

And of Obama's involvement in the activities of a group whose board he chaired:

Mr. Ayers founded CAC and was its guiding spirit....Mr. Ayers sat as an ex-officio member of the board Mr. Obama chaired through CAC's first year. He also served on the board's governance committee with Mr. Obama, and worked with him to craft CAC bylaws. Mr. Ayers made presentations to board meetings chaired by Mr. Obama. Mr. Ayers spoke for the Collaborative before the board. Likewise, Mr. Obama periodically spoke for the board at meetings of the Collaborative.


Kurtz's conclusion:


The Obama campaign has cried foul when Bill Ayers comes up, claiming "guilt by association." Yet the issue here isn't guilt by association; it's guilt by participation. As CAC chairman, Mr. Obama was lending moral and financial support to Mr. Ayers and his radical circle.

Kurtz makes some references in the article to the Obama camp's pushback, and discusses it (including reprinting the Obama campaign's full response) here, including completing the connection of the dots in Obama's involvement in setting up and funding Ayers' activities:

In the first year, 1995, Obama headed the board, which made fiscal decisions, and Ayers co-chaired the Collaborative, which set education policy. During that first year, Obama's formal responsibilities mandated close cooperation and coordination with the Collaborative. As board chair and president of the CAC corporation, Obama was authorized to "delegate to the Collaborative the development of collaborative projects and programs . . . to obtain assistance of the Collaborative in the development of requests for proposals . . . and to seek advice from the Collaborative regarding the programmatic aspects of grant proposals." All this clearly involves significant consultation between the board, headed by Obama, and the Collaborative, co-chaired by Ayers.

Bear in mind the timeline - this is precisely the time at which Obama was launching his political career (including a meeting at Ayers' home), signing a contract to support the platform of the Marxist New Party, representing ACORN as its lawyer, and receiving the support and active participation, in return, of ACORN and similar of left-wing groups as ground troops in his campaigns. Tom Maguire looks at how far back Obama's relationship with Ayers goes. I continue to be amazed that any civilized person could associate with this terrorist, much less allocate money to give him a role in educating children. But then, recall the words of the Chicago Democratic Socialists of America, writing in 2000:

Barak Obama is serving only his second term in the Illinois State Senate so he might be fairly charged with ambition, but the same might have be said of Bobby Rush when he ran against Congressman Charles Hayes. Obama also has put in time at the grass roots, working for five years as a community organizer in Harlem and in Chicago. When Obama participated in a 1996 UofC YDS Townhall Meeting on Economic Insecurity, much of what he had to say was well within the mainstream of European social democracy.

And of course, besides funding Ayers, Obama once in office was essentially letting groups like Planned Parenthood essentially write sex education bills* - not a group as overtly outside the mainstream as Ayers, but consistent with Obama's overall Illinois record as a hard-core left-wing culture warrior looking to empower the whole menagerie of left-wing interest groups (headed by other "community organizers" just like Obama himself) with funding and sway over government. Kurtz, who has followed similar stories for years, explains how all of this is symptomatic of the broader left-wing cultural and educational program:

Stanley Kurtz has a piece in the WSJ detailing the association of Bill Ayers and Barack Obama at the Chicago Annenberg Challenge. He also offers insights into Bill Ayers' radical education agenda - soccer moms, listen up!

Let me chime in on this point from the Journal:

One unsettled question is how Mr. Obama, a former community organizer fresh out of law school, could vault to the top of a new foundation? In response to my questions, the Obama campaign issued a statement saying that Mr. Ayers had nothing to do with Obama's "recruitment" to the board. The statement says Deborah Leff and Patricia Albjerg Graham (presidents of other foundations) recruited him. Yet the archives show that, along with Ms. Leff and Ms. Graham, Mr. Ayers was one of a working group of five who assembled the initial board in 1994. Mr. Ayers founded CAC and was its guiding spirit. No one would have been appointed the CAC chairman without his approval.

Unsettled indeed. But do keep in mind - there was a push for education reform in Chicago in 1988. The ABCs Coalition was coordinated by Bill Ayers, whose father was a key member of major philanthropic group that was also part of the ABCs Coalition. Another member of the ABCs - Barack Obama's Developing Communities Project.

So, did Bill and Barack meet back in 1988, just before Obama went off to Harvard? The timing is tricky - per his autobiography, Obama was working with a city-wide coalition on school reform in early 1988. However, he was planning to leave the Developing Communities Project in May of 1988 and go to Harvard that fall. The ABCs Coalition apparently came together in the spring of 1988 - this detailed history dates the ABCs Coalition to March 1988 (page 20), which leaves plenty of time for Obama and Ayers to meet and greet. The ABCs effort had hammered out a proposal and held a big rally by June 6, so a lot of work was done in April and May while Barack would have been involved.

Unless his name was picked from out of a hat in 1995 it is an excellent bet that Obama and Ayers met in 1988, which explains his subsequent recruitment by Ayers (denied by the campaign, of course) for the Annenberg Challenge in 1995.

I wonder if the mainstream media will poke at this prior to November 5. I guess it depends on whether they will have time and resources left after they track down Sarah Palin's second grade teacher to resolve the allegation that she spilled a paste jar and then covered it up.

At its founding, the Annenberg Challenge was made up of three constituent parts:

Ironically, they concluded that the $110 million spent in Chicago over six years had little or no impact on outcomes for students.

As board chair and president of the CACcorporation, Obama was authorized to "delegate to the Collaborativethe development of collaborative projects and programs . . . to obtain assistance of the Collaborative in the development of requests for proposals . . . and to seek advice from the Collaborative regarding the programmatic aspects of grant proposals." All this clearly involves significant consultationbetween the board, headed by Obama, and the Collaborative, co-chaired by Ayers.

Bear in mind the timeline - this is precisely the time at which Obama was launching his political career (including a meeting atAyers' home), signing a contract to support the platform of the Marxist New Party, representing ACORN as its lawyer, and receiving the support and active participation, in return, of ACORN and similar of left-wing groups as ground troops in hiscampaigns. Tom Maguire looks at how far back Obama's relationship with Ayers goes. I continue to be amazed that any civilized person could associate with this terrorist, much less allocate money to give him a role in educating children. But then, recall the words of theChicago Democratic Socialists of America, writing in 2000:

Barak Obama is serving only his second term in the Illinois State Senate so he might be fairly charged with ambition, but the same might have be said of Bobby Rush when he ran against Congressman Charles Hayes. Obama also has put in time at the grassroots, working for five years as a community organizer in Harlem and in Chicago. When Obama participated in a 1996 Uof C YDS Townhall Meeting on Economic Insecurity, much of what he had to say was well within the mainstream of European social democracy.

And of course, besides funding Ayers, Obama once in office was essentially letting groups like PlannedParenthood essentially write sex education bills - not a group as overtly outside the mainstream as Ayers, but consistent with Obama's overall Illinois record as a hard-core left-wing culture warrior looking to empower the whole menagerie of left-wing interest groups (headed by other "communityorganizers" just like Obama himself) with funding and sway over government. Kurtz, who has followed similar stories for years, explains how all of this is symptomatic of the broader left-wingcultural and educational program:

[T]he story of modern philanthropy is largely the story of moderate and conservative donors finding their funds "captured"by far more liberal, often radical, beneficiaries. CAC's story is aclassic of the genre. Ayers and Obama guided CAC money to community organizers, like ACORN (the Association of Community Organizationsfor Reform Now) and the Developing Communities Project (Part of the Gamaliel Foundation network), groups self-consciously working in the radical tradition of Saul Alinsky....

Of course, you don't go to a group like the Annenberg Challenge with an explicit promise to promote left-wing radicalism,and you don't pick Bill Ayers as the front man to deal with the donors. You pick someone smoother, less of a known commodity...you pick Barack Obama. In 1995, it was Obama's job to put a pleasant, respectable face on a fundamentally left-wing project.

Not much has changed since then, has it?

To listen to the Obama spin-masters you’d think that the McCain campaign’s questioning of their candidate’s association with unrepentant terrorist bomber Bill Ayers is a smear tactic falsely elevating a casual relationship between the two men into one where they worked together in promoting Ayers’ far-left goals.
Their reaction to the continuing revelations that disprove that claim is one of sheer panic -- and they have a good reason to be scared witless that any in-depth probe of what went on between the two comrades will reveal Obama’s true colors -- all of them dark red!

If the truth becomes better known -- and it will if the Ayers issue is doggedly pursued -- it will be clear that Obama was not only deeply immersed the fetid swamp of Chicago’s far-left political scene, but was from the very beginning of his career carefully groomed by the city’s socialist left to follow the path he’s on now in his quest for the presidency of the United States.

Giving credence to the charge that Obama was “groomed by an older generation of radical leftists for insertion into the American political process, trading on good looks, brains, educational pedigree, and the desire of the vast majority of the voting public to right the historical racial wrongs of the [past]” as the American Thinkers’ Thomas Lifson has written:

• Obama belonged to the socialist New Party, described by Lifson as “a radical left organization, established in 1992, to amalgamate far-left groups and push the United States into socialism by forcing the Democratic Party to the left.” A March 22, 1998 article by John Nichols in These Times revealed, “After six years, the party has built what is arguably the most sophisticated left-leaning political operation the country has seen since the decline of the Farmer-Labor, Progressive and Non-Partisan League groupings of the early part of the century.”

• Obama has been allied with ACORN and their Project Vote, the radical leftist group now charged with massive vote fraud aimed at electing Barack Obama president of the United States. Obama has long been directly involved with ACORN. An article by Toni Foulkes of ACORN, “Case Study: Chicago-The Barack Obama Campaign,” which appeared in Social Policy magazine in 2004, Foulkes revealed ACORN noticed Obama when he was organizing on the far south side of the city with the Developing Communities Project. Wrote Foulks: “He was a very good organizer. When he returned from law school, we asked him to help us with a lawsuit to challenge the state of Illinois’ refusal to abide by the National Voting Rights Act … Obama took the case, known as ACORN vs. Edgar … and we won. Obama then went on to run a voter registration project with Project VOTE in 1992 that made it possible for Carol Moseley Braun to win the Senate that year. Project VOTE delivered 50,000 newly registered voters in that campaign (ACORN delivered about 5000 of them). Since then, we have invited Obama to our leadership training sessions to run the session on power every year, and, as a result, many of our newly developing leaders got to know him before he ever ran for office.”

• Obama and Bill Ayers were close associates for years, going back as far as 1995 if not earlier. According to CNN: “A review of board minutes and records by CNN show Obama crossed paths repeatedly with Ayers at board meetings of the Annenberg Challenge Project. The Annenberg Foundation gave the project a $50 million grant to match local private funds to improve schools… Obama was asked to serve as the board chairman in 1995… For seven years, Ayers and Obama -- among many others -- worked on funding for education projects, including some projects advocated by Ayers ... The board, for example, gave hundreds of thousands of dollars to Bill Ayers' small schools project… The funding, according to records… CNN reviewed, came directly from the Annenberg foundation which Obama chaired. While working on the Annenberg project, Obama and Ayers also served together on a second charitable foundation, the Woods Fund.”

No wonder the Obama campaign wants the Ayers connection to be off-limits.

Why Has There Been a Cover Up About Obama's Community Organizing Days?

Much attention is rightly being paid to Governor Palin’s speech from Wednesday night. But there were compelling points made by other speakers at the Republican Convention. For example, Rudy Guiliani, former mayor of New York City, said the following regarding Obama’s resume:

On the other hand, you have a resume from a gifted man with an Ivy League education. He worked as a community organizer. What? He worked — I said — I said, OK, OK, maybe this is the first problem on the resume.

He worked as a community organizer. He immersed himself in Chicago machine politics.

Notice how Rudy seamlessly links Obama’s work as a community organizer with the corrupt Chicago political machine. Now Rudy turns the knife on Obama’s celebrity status:

A few years later — a few years later, he ran for the U.S. Senate. He spent most of his time as a celebrity senator: no leadership, no legislation to really speak of.

His rise is remarkable in its own right. It’s the kind of thing that can happen only in America.

Obama’s rise has been remarkable, but it was not a miracle. His rise was facilitated by Chicago’s power brokers, people such as unrepentant terrorist Bill Ayers. And here is where Rudy omits an important bullet point on Obama’s incomplete resume:

But he’s never — he’s never run a city. He’s never run a state. He’s never run a business. He’s never run a military unit. He’s never had to lead people in crisis.

He is the least experienced candidate for president of the United States in at least the last 100 years.

Not a personal attack, a statement of fact. Barack Obama has never led anything, nothing, nada.

Nada, nothing.

Actually, Obama has led something: the Chicago Annenberg Challenge (CAC). If the Republicans do their job, CAC will be a household name. Obama did lead this organization, but his actions during his tenure remain murky, to say the least. But there was a time, back in Chicago, when Obama was not concealing his work with CAC. Stanley Kurtz writes:

When Obama made his first run for political office, articles in both the Chicago Defender and the Hyde Park Herald featured among his qualifications his position as chairman of the board of the Chicago Annenberg Challenge, a foundation where Ayers was a founder and guiding force. Obama assumed the Annenberg board chairmanship only months before his first run for office, and almost certainly received the job at the behest of Bill Ayers.

This was a heady position for the obscure Obama. Steve Diamond reports:

The first chairman of the CAC Board was Barack Obama, at that point, 33 years old and a third year associate at Davis, Miner, Barnhill & Galland, a small Chicago law firm.

Not only did Ayers likely place Obama at the top of CAC, but they worked together to fund Ayers’ special projects:

During Obama’s time as Annenberg board chairman, Ayers’s own education projects received substantial funding. Indeed, during its first year, the Chicago Annenberg Challenge struggled with significant concerns about possible conflicts of interest. With a writ to aid Chicago’s public schools, the Annenberg challenge played a deeply political role in Chicago’s education wars, and as Annenberg board chairman, Obama clearly aligned himself with Ayers’s radical views on education issues.

Rudy got it partly right. Obama’s rise has been remarkable, but his leadership of CAC and the millions of dollars dispersed (perhaps $160 million) — with the help and guidance of Bill Ayers — is only now being reviewed. Kurtz writes:

This much we know from the public record, but a large cache of documents housed in the Richard J. Daley Library at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC), is likely to flesh out the story.

Rudy Guiliani, the mayor who presided over the worst terrorist attack in American history, might be interested in knowing that Obama’s rise was facilitated by a man, Bill Ayers, who said of his own terrorist activities:

“I don’t regret setting bombs” and “I feel we didn’t do enough”, and, when asked if he would “do it all again” as saying “I don’t want to discount the possibility.”

There are burning questions regarding Obama, Ayers, and CAC: Where did all that money go? Who benefited? How much influence did Ayers exert on Obama in allocating funds? And why has there been a cover-up?

Everyone is out to destroy Palin - but it's Obama's past we should examine

With all eyes glued to the collapse of global capitalism as we know it, attention has been somewhat distracted from the race to lead what still remains the most powerful nation on earth - the United States. We ignore it at our peril.
From the shockingly partisan presentation by the pro-Obama media on both sides of the Atlantic, you'd think this was a contest between twin pillars of rectitude and inspirational high seriousness on the Democratic side, and a joke Republican ticket consisting of an erratic old man and a brainless, wacko, gun-toting beauty queen, who in a fit of madness John McCain picked as his vice-presidential candidate.

Unfortunately for the Democrats, the beauty queen in question, Governor Sarah Palin of Alaska, has struck an enormous chord with Middle America. As a result, Barack Obama's media supporters are making a huge effort to destroy her.

Inquiry

Now the Left thinks it has shot its moose. It has been crowing that an inquiry by Alaska's legislature has found Palin abused her office by firing Alaska's Commissioner of Public Safety for refusing to fire in turn Palin's former brother-in-law, Trooper Michael Wooten.

This really is a case of half-baked Alaska. First, the inquiry's conclusions were ambiguous. It found that Palin had violated public trust through using official action for personal interest; but it also said the firing was a proper and lawful exercise of her authority, and that personal interest had only been a contributory factor in the Commissioner's firing.

And just what was that personal interest? Palin wanted a state Trooper fired because he had assaulted his 11-year-old stepson with a stun gun, been caught drinking alcohol in his patrol car, and the Palins say was threatening to kill a member of their family.

Certainly, there was a conflict of interest because Wooten was the Governor's sister's ex-husband. But shouldn't the real question be why such a man was not fired?

What is really astounding, however, is the hue and cry over this non-event in Alaska while a raft of disturbing evidence about Senator Obama's connections is being either glossed over or not reported at all.

This may come as a shock to most people, but Obama is at the centre of a network of radical associations which he has tried to conceal.

Take for example his relationship with William Ayers, founder of the terrorist Weather Underground which bombed federal buildings in the 1960s and who has consistently maintained his radical views ever since.

Sarah Palin: The key target for Democrats

Obama's own political career was actually launched in Ayers's Chicago house at a fundraising-event in 1995 which fired the starting gun for his run at the Illinois Senate.

Not only that, Obama and Ayers both sat on the boards of two organisations, the Chicago Annenberg Challenge and the Woods Fund. These organisations put into practice Ayers's revolutionary ideology by channelling money supposed to fund regular educational projects into extreme radical groups instead.
Obama now says he didn't know of Ayers's terrorist past and never endorsed his views, simply working with him on an educational project. But it defies belief he didn't know about Ayers, who was notorious in Chicago. In 2001, indeed, Ayers told a magazine: 'I don't regret setting bombs. I feel we didn't do enough.'
The crucial point was that this educational project was itself a vehicle for subversion; in the view of Ayers, its driving force, education was 'the motor-force of revolution'. Moreover, Obama wrote a rave review about Ayers' book on criminal justice, which compared America to South Africa under apartheid.
Scandal

If John McCain had such strong links with ACORN, wouldn't he be torn apart for it?

Through the Woods Fund, Obama also funnelled millions of dollars to the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN). Described by an academic sympathiser as 'a uniquely militant organisation', ACORN played a significant role in the sub-prime scandal - which detonated America's financial crisis - by physically intimidating banks into lowering credit standards for poor and minority customers.

The Obama campaign has paid an ACORN subsidiary $800,000 to register new voters. But now, numerous states are launching investigations into massive voter fraud being carried out by ACORN activists who are being caught falsifying voter registration cards, registering fictitious individuals and hounding voters to register multiple times.

But Obama's connections with ACORN go even deeper. Even though his campaign has denied this, for several years running he trained its activists and in 1992 even ran one of its voter registration projects.

Such radical links fit with other highly dubious associations Obama has made. We all know that, under pressure, he distanced himself from his longstanding mentor Pastor Wright, who infamously coined the phrase 'God damn America!'
But Obama never distanced himself from the anti-white teachings of his church, which was heavily influenced by the philosophy of the black racist James Cone who claimed that 'whiteness is the symbol of the antichrist'.

And after the controversy over Wright, Obama has become close to another preacher, Jim Wallis, who spews out the same anti-American message - once calling the U.S. 'the great power, the great seducer, the great captor and destroyer of human life'.

That's not all. ACORN is heavily involved with a Marxist group called the Chicago New Party, whose strategy is to force the Democratic Party to the far Left by infiltrating it and ' burrowing from within'. In 1996, the New Party exulted that one of its members who had just been successful in the political primary season was - Barack Obama.

Guilt

Whenever any of this surfaces, the Left tries to suppress it by screaming 'guilt by association'. Not so. This is guilt by participation.

Can Obama Survive the Annenberg Cover-up?

Everything I can find about the Obama-Ayers relationship indicates this relationship was
much, much closer than Obama has stated. That together they blew through somewhere between $100,000,000 and $160,000,000 on dubious projects that benefitted none of the people the money was intended for. If voters find out Obama was lying about his past, will it kill his chances in November?

Throughout the summer months, many voters supporting John McCain have been frustrated by his failure to respond forcefully to Obama’s charges against him. I felt his failure to swat about at each charge was because he was an old fighter pilot, taught to hold his fire and stay concealed as long as possible. If circumstances permitted, he would not budge until his opponent had made a potentially fatal move from which it was going to be exceedingly hard to extricate himself. Whether my assessment was right or not, it appears that the moment to strike has arrived, and like the old fighter pilot descending from the cloud cover, McCain has taken full advantage of Obama’s errors to place him in a position from which I can see no way out for him.

I’m talking about Obama’s role in the Chicago Annenberg Challenge (CAC), and his ill-conceived ad attacking McCain’s associations which opened the door for McCain to bring to public view something Obama has — with clear media connivance — lied about and tried to conceal: His close association with William Ayers in a program he botched.

The last thing Obama should want made public are his dubious associates. The public has had some exposure to his long time spiritual adviser, Rev. Jeremiah Wright, many have heard of the convicted Chicago fixer Tony Rezko, and some have just a bit of knowledge about William Ayers. As McCain said Wednesday: “[I]f Barack Obama wants to have a discussion about truly questionable associations, let’s start with his relationship with the unrepentant terrorist William Ayers, at whose home Obama’s political career was reportedly launched . Mr. Ayers was a leader of the Weather Underground, a terrorist group responsible for countless bombings against targets including the U.S. Capitol, the Pentagon and numerous police stations, courthouses and banks. In recent years Mr. Ayers has stated, ‘I don’t regret setting bombs. … I feel we didn’t do enough.’”

The background of this matter has been hashed out for some months online at Slate, The American Thinker, Just One Minute and Global Labor. National Review Online joined in more recently. But if you missed the story or were unable to keep up with it, it began when Obama lied about the extent of his relationship with Ayers and the press gave him a pass. Obama gave varying accounts of this relationship:

“…a guy who lives in my neighborhood, who’s a professor of English in Chicago, who I know and who I have not received an official endorsement from. He’s not somebody who I exchange ideas from (sic) on a regular basis.”

“Now, Mr. Ayres is a 60 plus year old individual who lives in my
neighborhood, who did something I deplore 40 years ago when I was six or seven years old. By the time I met him, he was a professor of education at the University of Illinois.”

So, the story was that Ayers was an old professor in Mr. Obama’s neighborhood who just happened to host a fundraiser for him in 1995 which launched his political career.

A Couple of Bad Egg(heads): Obama and Ayers

Barack Obama and William Ayers, unrepentant 60's radical Weatherman, were together in April 2002 on a panel. This was 7 months after Ayers publicly declared he wished he had bombed more. Obama's staffers indicate the two were in touch at least through 2005. When asked about their relationship, Obama dismissed Ayers as "Just a guy in my neighborhood". Neglecting to state they shared an office for three years in the 90's,served on numerous boards together and that his political introduction in Chicago was launched in Ayers' living room.

I believe it's from Chicago Magazine, and it accompanied an article in which Ayers was peddling his terrorist memoir, Fugitive Days.At the time this photograph was taken, Obama and Ayers were serving together on the board of the Woods Fund. Antoin "Tony" Rezko


"Tony" Rezko (born 1955 in Syria) is an American political fundraiser, restaurateur, and real estate developer in Chicago, Illinois, convicted on several counts of fraud and bribery in 2008.

In 1995, Obama began campaigning for a seat in the Illinois Senate. Among his earliest supporters: Rezko. Two Rezko companies donated a total of $2,000. Obama was elected in 1996 -- representing a district that included 11 of Rezko's 30 low-income housing projects.
Rezko's low-income housing empire began crumbling in 2001, when his company stopped making mortgage payments on the old nursing home that had been converted into apartments. The state foreclosed on the building -- which was in Obama's Illinois Senate district.
In 2003, Obama announced he was running for the U.S. Senate, and Rezko -- a member of his campaign finance committee -- held a lavish fund-raiser June 27, 2003, at his Wilmette mansion.
A few months after Obama became a U.S. senator, he and Rezko's wife, Rita, bought adjacent pieces of property from a doctor in Chicago's Kenwood neighborhood -- a deal that has dogged Obama the last two years. The doctor sold the mansion to Obama for $1.65 million -- $300,000 below the asking price. Rezko's wife paid full price -- $625,000 -- for the adjacent vacant lot. The deals closed in June 2005. Six months later, Obama paid Rezko's wife $104,500 for a strip of her land, so he could have a bigger yard. At the time, it had been widely reported that Tony Rezko was under federal investigation.
Rezko has become an "Achilles heel" for Illinois Sen. Barack Obama after disclosures he and people associated with him had raised almost $200,000 for Obama and that Obama sought Rezko's "help and advice" in the purchase of a new home.
In a court hearing in Chicago, prosecutors detailed a $3.5 million wire transfer from a bank in Beirut, Lebanon that they said was moved through a series of accounts until it reached Rezko or some of his relatives who had posted property for his bond.
Rezko is now in jail and no one knows what the outcome will be. Perhaps a presidential pardon.

Occupation Head of the Nation of Islam Religious beliefs Nation of Islam Farrakhan currently resides in Kenwood, a neighborhood on the south side of Chicago, and part time at a Nation of Islam farm in New Buffalo, Michigan. He led the 1995 Million Man March on Washington and has declared Barack Obama the messiah.

William Ayers was a member of the Vietman War protesters known as the Weathermen, a terrorist group in the 60's who caused a great deal of property damage and several deaths. Among other advice Ayers told young people ""Kill all the rich people. Break up their cars and apartments. Bring the revolution home, kill your parents—that's where it's really at." His wife, Bernardine Dohrn, was at one time one of the FBI's Ten Most Wanted criminals. Although she was convicted of a felony, some legal mixup allowed them both to escape the worst of the charges. Ayers has boasted he is "Guilty as sin, free as a bird." Ayers and his wife co-authored a book, Prairie Fire dedicated in part to Sirhan Sirhan, who asassinated Robert Kennedy in 1969. Barack Obama's polital career was launched in their living room. Obama shared an office with him for at least three years and wrote a recommendation for one of Ayers' books.

Rashid Khalidi

Khalidi has been accused of having ties to the Palestinian Liberation Organization, based on his work for Wafa in the late 1980s, and later serving as an advisor to the Palestinian delegation during the Madrid Conference of 1991. As an example, the New York Times referred to him in 1978 as "an American-educated Palestinian who teaches political science at the American University of Beirut and also works for the P.L.O."

Obama made one of the presentations in praise of Khalidi at a 2003 farewell dinner on the occasion of Khalidi leaving the Chicago Area.The dinner was a celebration of the Chicago area Palestinian community. Obama's remarks alluded to the numerous dinners that he had at the home of the Khalidis. Obama and Bill Ayers dispersed monies to Islamic groups controlled by the Khalidis acting as board members of the Woods Fund of Chicago and Annenberg Foundation.

Reverend Jeremiah Wright

Rev.Wright of the Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago shocked televison viewers nationwide in March when tapes of his vitriolic hate fill paranoid speeches begain to be shown on prime time news shows. He waved his arms in the air and turned around like an erratic top as he yelled "No, no, no, God Damn America, it's in the Bible!" and "America's chickens are coming home to roost!". That the Government deliberately let our men at Pearl Harbor be killed, and a lot more. We learned his church was not atypical. But the difference was Barack Obama had by his own admission been sitting there for 20 years worth of sermons. "Yep. Every week. 11 o’clock service". What? He sat there with his two little kids listening to that hate filled garbage? Yes. And he considered Rev. Wright his mentor, was married by him and allowed him to baptize his children.

More Than 3,000 Academics Sign Pro-Ayers Petition

Nutty Professors Educators signed a petition praising William Ayers as an education reformer whose ties to the domestic terrorist group Weather Underground are just "history."

More than 3,200 supporters -- most of them educators -- have signed a petition protesting what they say is the "demonization of Professor William Ayers," asserting that his violent actions as the co-founder of the Weather Underground were just "history."

Barack Obama's ties to Ayers have been questioned during the presidential campaign by critics who call the professor a "domestic terrorist."
Among the people who signed the petition are No. 5, Columbia University professor of Arab studies Rashid Khalidi, and No. 814, former University of Colorado at Boulder professor Ward Churchill.

Churchill made headlines when he called the victims of the September 11 attacks on the World Trade Center "little Eichmanns" and compared them to Nazis in an essay. He was fired from his job in Boulder for plagiarism.
Khalidi, a Palestinian activist, was a director of the Palestinian Liberation Organization's press agency in 1982, according to The New York Times, when the PLO was still designated by the U.S. government as a terrorist organization.
Obama spent time with Khalidi when the two were professors in Chicago, and paid him a special tribute during a farewell dinner for the firebrand professor in 2003, reminiscing about meals prepared by Khalidi's wife, according to the LA Times.

Obama has distanced himself from Khalidi, whom he called an academic acquaintance. "He is not one of my advisers. He's not one of my foreign policy people. He is a respected scholar, although he vehemently disagrees with a lot of Israel's policy," he said during a campaign event.

The petition, circulated online, asserts that Ayers is a well-respected, nationally-known figure in the education world, and critics who call him an "unrepentant terrorist" and "lunatic leftist" are "part of a pattern of 'exposes' and assaults designed to intimidate free thinking and stifle critical dialogue."

Ayers Dedicated Book to Sirhan Sirhan, Robert Kennedy's Killer

In 1974 Bill Ayers dedicated a book, Prairie Fire, a communist manifesto, he co-authored with his wife, Bernardine Dohrn, to Palastinian Sirhan Sirhan, the lone assasin of Robert Kennedy, presidential candidate. Obama has called Ayers "just a guy in my neighborhood". But the association goes much deeper. (see at bottom)

Palin Goes After Obama-Ayers Connection

Republican vice presidential nominee Gov. Sarah Palin unleashed a new attack on Sen. Barack Obama, accusing him of "palling around with terrorists" for his association with former 1960s radical William Ayers. The Obama campaign immediately denounced the attack as "shameless" and "offensive."

At a private fundraiser in Englewood, Colo., this morning, and later at a rally in Carson, Calif., this afternoon, Palin for the first time raised Obama’s connection to Ayers, one of the founding members of the Weather Underground, a '60s radical group that took credit for bombing attacks around the country, including explosions set off at the Pentagon and U.S. Capitol.

"Our opponent, though, is someone who sees America, it seems, as being so imperfect, imperfect enough that he's palling around with terrorists who would target their own country," Palin told supporters at a $1,000-a-plate fundraiser in Englewood. "Americans need to know this."

Palin cited a front-page article in today’s New York Times that explored the ties between Obama and Ayers. Obama had served on a charity board with Ayers in Chicago during the mid-90s, and Ayers was present at an organizing meeting in 1995 to kick off Obama's first election campaign for the Illinois State Senate.
"There has been a lot of interest in what I read, and what I read lately well, was reading my copy of today’s New York Times and I was really interested to read about Barack's friends from Chicago," Palin said. "OK, now I get to bring this up not to pick a fight, but it was there in the New York Times, so we're gonna talk about it.

"And it turns out one of Barack’s earliest supporters is a man who according to the New York Times, and are they ever wrong, according to the New York Times was a domestic terrorist and part of a group of that, quote, pushed a campaign of bombings that would target the Pentagon and the U.S. Capitol," Palin continued. "Wow. These are the same guys who think patriotism is paying higher taxes. This is not a man who sees America as I see America, OK?"

"By Their Words Ye Shall Know Them"

Contrary to Bill Ayers just being "a guy in my neighborhood", as Barack Obama has so famously stated, it seems he was a person Obama knew well enough for whom to write a glowing book review. As well as share an office with for at least three years.

There have been mentions of the existence of his review of A Kind and Just Parent: The Children of Juvenile Court (Beacon Press, 1997), in a few media outlets, including CNN, National Review, and American Spectator. But there was no direct Web link to the review itself — only citations of it. It has now been obtained and generously shared. Turns out the review was very short; the short quotations attributed to it are in fact the entirety of the review. But it was accompanied by a photo of Obama, standing by his statement. The review was part of a column called "Mark My Word," in which Chicago notables praise their favorite current books.

Just a few weeks before this review was published in the Chicago Tribune, Obama and Ayers appeared together on a panel about juvenile justice organized by Michelle Obama on November 6, 1997:

In his book, Ayers deplores the following;

Children who kill are called "super predators," "people with no conscience," "feral pre-social beings" — and "adults."

William Ayers says; "We should call a child a child. A 13-year-old who picks up a gun isn’t suddenly an adult. We have to ask other questions: How did he get the gun? Where did it come from?" And other simular claptrap.

Reportedly Ayers thinks society should do away with prisons. This is understandable considering so many of his friends are there.

REPUBLICANS don't need to dress up for Halloween this year. They're scaring the pants off Barack Obama's followers by their mere presence. Anything they say, wear or do provokes instant cries of "RAAAAACISM!"

Wink, blink or think critical thoughts about Obama? You're a bigot!

How many racial bogeymen have Obama operatives and sympathetic journalists discovered lurking in "coded language" and attire? Let us count the ways:

* During Tuesday's presidential debate, John McCain referred to Obama as "that one." Official Obama press agitator Bill Burton sent off an e-mail blast to reporters: "Did John McCain just refer to Obama as 'that one'?" Horrors.

Taking their cue from Burton, spooked Obama supporters hyperventilated like teens on the film set of "The Blair Witch Project." "The racial undertones were subtle but unmistakable," declared Maya Wiley of the leftist Center for Social Inclusion. "McCain was tapping into a current of superiority among white voters. It was an attempt to 'otherize' Obama."

"Otherize"? Sounds like something you do to your car tires to prepare for winter. UC Berkeley linguistics professor George Lakoff was also haunted by "That One": "The phrase was meant to say, 'You and I are in the same area, but he's the outsider.' "

Memo to McCain: Next time, call him "The One."

* Earlier this week, the Associated Press disseminated an "analysis" accusing Sarah Palin of injecting a "racial tinge" into the campaign because she criticized Obama for his longtime relationship with Weather Underground terrorist Bill Ayers.

Palin's comments were completely unobjectionable: "This is not a man who sees America like you and I see America."

I saw a vice presidential candidate drawing stark philosophical differences between two tickets. The AP saw Freddy Krueger with lipstick and a noose.

"Whether intended or not by the McCain campaign, portraying Obama as 'not like us' is another potential appeal to racism. It suggests that the Hawaiian-born Christian is, at heart, un-American," the AP piece frothed.

Obama is half-black. Ayers is white. One of the Weather Underground's victims was black police officer Waverly Brown of Nyack, NY.

Where do I buy a pair of the super X-ray glasses that can detect the racism in Palin's remarks about the Obama-Ayers alliance?

* I'll have to borrow those spectacles from Time's Karen Tumulty, who spotted racist goblins in the recent McCain ad criticizing Obama for seeking advice from Fannie Mae corruptocrat Franklin Raines. "Sinister images of two black men, followed by one of a vulnerable-looking elderly white woman," Tumulty balked in a blog post titled "McCain plays the race card."

Um, "sinister"? The ad's photos of Obama and Raines were standard shots - some with dour expressions, others smiling. The fact that Tumulty perceived them as "sinister" suggests that she should perform a self-racism exam before diagnosing anyone else.
