EXCLUSIVE: Did Next Commander-in-Chief Falsify Selective Service Registration? Never Actually Register? Obama's Draft Registration Raises Serious Questions

Did President-elect Barack Hussein Obama commit a federal crime in September of this year? Or did he never actually register and, instead, did friends of his in the Chicago federal records center, which maintains the official copy of his alleged Selective Service registration commit the crime for him?
It's either one or the other, as indicated by the release of Barack Obama's official Selective Service registration for the draft. A friend of mine, who is a retired federal agent, spent almost a year trying to obtain this document through a Freedom of Information Act request, and, after much stonewalling, finally received it and released it to me.

Media Guilty as Charged!!!

One of the nation's premier newspapers fesses up about allegations of pro-Obama bias. The Washington Post's ombudsperson, Deborah Howell, tracked its presidential campaign stories, front-page coverage and use of photos covering the period from Obama's nomination on June 4 to Election Day. The result?
Howell writes: "The op-ed page ran far more laudatory opinion pieces on Obama, 32, than on Sen. John McCain, 13. There were far more negative pieces about McCain, 58, than there were about Obama, 32, and Obama got the editorial board's endorsement. …
"Stories and photos about Obama in the news pages outnumbered those devoted to McCain. Reporters, photographers and editors found the candidacy of Obama, the first African American major-party nominee, more newsworthy and historic. Journalists love the new; McCain, 25 years older than Obama, was already well known and had more scars from his longer career in politics.
"The number of Obama stories since Nov. 11 was 946, compared with McCain's 786. Both had hard-fought primary campaigns, but Obama's battle with Hillary Rodham Clinton was longer, and the numbers reflect that.
"McCain clinched the GOP nomination on March 4, three months before Obama won his. From June 4 to Election Day, the tally was Obama, 626 stories, and McCain, 584. Obama was on the front page 176 times, McCain, 144 times; 41 stories featured both. …
"But Obama deserved tougher scrutiny than he got, especially of his undergraduate years, his start in Chicago and his relationship with Antoin 'Tony' Rezko, who was convicted this year of influence-peddling in Chicago. The Post did nothing on Obama's acknowledged drug use as a teenager. …
"One gaping hole in coverage involved Joe Biden, Obama's running mate. When Gov. Sarah Palin was nominated for vice president, reporters were booking the next flight to Alaska. Some readers thought The Post went over Palin with a fine-tooth comb and neglected Biden. They are right."
Guilty! Guilty! Guilty! Guilty!

They know how important this race is!
Anyone who is in or near Georgia can help to get out the

Madam Secretary???

Hillary Clinton's hopes of becoming Madam President have died - at least for 2008. But could she rise again as Madam Secretary?
Clinton made her surprise visit to Obama's transition office yesterday afternoon. The meeting was not on Clinton's official schedule, and her Senate staff had previously said she was in Chicago for personal reasons.
Today, the woman occupying the centre of the political stage, gave away nothing about her future.
"I'm not going to speculate or address anything about the president-elect's incoming administration. And I am going to respect his process and any inquiries should be directed to his transition team," Clinton told a conference in Albany, New York.
Others in the Clinton camp were adamant that the meeting was not a job interview or in any way decisive. But the mere fact that it occurred has fuelled speculation that Clinton is now a contender for a major cabinet post.

Rahm Emanuel's Father Makes Embarrassing Ethnic Slur

Perhaps Rahm Emanuel should have been required to disclose his father's extreme views. (as applicants for lower level jobs in the new administration are required to do) But since they are well known, perhaps Barack Obama should have known about them. JC
Emanuel Apologizes for Father's Comments
Thursday, November 13, 2008 11:21 PM
President-elect Barack Obama's chief of staff, Rahm Emanuel, apologized to an Arab-American group on Thursday for comments disparaging Arabs made by his father.
The American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee sent a letter to Emanuel calling on him to distance himself from remarks made by the elder Emanuel in an interview with an Israeli newspaper following his son's appointment last week.
In the interview, Benjamin Emanuel was reported as saying: "Obviously, he will influence the president to be pro-Israel. Why wouldn't he? What is he, an Arab? He's not going to clean the floors of the White House."
Although some political analysts have said Rahm Emanuel, a veteran Democratic congressman, should not be held responsible for his father's actions, there was also a sense that an apology was unavoidable.
"Today, Rep. Emanuel called Mary Rose Oakar, president of the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee, apologized on behalf of his family and offered to meet with representatives of the Arab-American community at an appropriate time in the future," a statement from his office said.
The committee said in a statement on its Web site that Emanuel told Oakar it was unacceptable to make such remarks against any ethnic or religious group.

Clones only need apply, real people could have baggage

For a Washington Job, Be Prepared to Tell All
By JACKIE CALMES
Published: November 12, 2008
WASHINGTON — Want a top job in the Obama administration? Only pack rats need apply, preferably those not packing controversy.
A seven-page questionnaire being sent by the office of President-elect Barack Obama to those seeking cabinet and other high-ranking posts may be the most extensive — some say invasive — application ever.
The questionnaire includes 63 requests for personal and professional records, some covering applicants’ spouses and grown children as well, that are forcing job-seekers to rummage from basements to attics, in shoe boxes, diaries and computer archives to document both their achievements and missteps.
Only the smallest details are excluded; traffic tickets carrying fines of less than $50 need not be reported, the application says. Applicants are asked whether they or anyone in their family owns a gun. They must include any e-mail that might embarrass the president-elect, along with any blog posts and links to their Facebook pages.
The application also asks applicants to “please list all aliases or ‘handles’ you have used to communicate on the Internet.”

Our Country Deserves Better

By Sarah Wheaton
As she seeks to recover politically from her failed election bid on Senator John McCain’s ticket, the big question for Gov. Sarah Palin has been whether her backers would remain enthusiastic over the long run.
As it turns out, over the past few days, about 1,000 people have donated tens of thousands of dollars to Our Country Deserves Better, a political action committee that is planning a pro-Palin advertisement later this month.
“We thought it would be appropriate to have the thank-you ad run around Thanksgiving,” said Joe Wiezbicki, the PAC’s coordinator. The group expects to shoot on Monday and raise “a couple hundred thousand dollars” to buy airtime nationally.
Our Country Deserves Better, based in Sacramento, was founded during the campaign to draw contrasts between Senator Barack Obama and John McCain, holding a cross-country, 40-stop tour and even running a pro-Palin commercial. Ms. Palin’s nomination brought praise from conservatives, and she drew large, enthusiastic crowds.
But now, Mr. Wierzbicki said, there has been “an absence of a pro-Palin cohort.”
“This woman’s reputation is going to be so damaged that she can never be a national political figure,” he added. So the goal of the ad is to “preserve her options.”
Mr. Wierzbicki said he was “surprised” by the response so far, which he called a “testament to her”, given typical post-election fatigue, especially on the losing side.
“I don’t think we would’ve seen the same level of response” if the planned spot were to defend Mr. McCain, he said.

Read this and Don't Fall for Ayer's Whitewash

Read It All; This Matters
Today's must-read: after months of investigation, in which he had to weather all manner of stonewalling and intimidation by the Obama camp, StanleyKurtz finally has the story, in today's Wall Street Journal, of Barack Obama's involvement in unrepentant former terrorist BillAyers' project to spread left-wing politics under the guise of'education' in Chicago schools. Here's a flavor of Ayers'project:
CAC translated Mr. Ayers's radicalism into practice. Instead of funding schools directly, it required schools to affiliate with"external partners," which actually got the money. Proposals fromgroups focused on math/science achievement were turned down.Instead CAC disbursed money through various far-left communityorganizers, such as the Association of Community Organizations forReform Now (or Acorn).
Mr. Obama once conducted "leadership training" seminars withAcorn, and Acorn members also served as volunteers in Mr. Obama'searly campaigns. External partners like the South Shore AfricanVillage Collaborative and the Dual Language Exchange focused moreon political consciousness, Afrocentricity and bilingualism thantraditional education. CAC's in-house evaluators comprehensivelystudied the effects of its grants on the test scores of Chicagopublic-school students. They found no evidence of educationalimprovement.
CAC also funded programs designed to promote "leadership" amongparents. Ostensibly this was to enable parents to advocate onbehalf of their children's education. In practice, it meant fundingMr. Obama's alma mater, the Developing Communities Project, torecruit parents to its overall political agenda. CAC records showthat board member Arnold Weber was concerned that parents"organized" by community groups might be viewed by schoolprincipals "as a political threat." Mr. Obama arranged meetingswith the Collaborative to smooth out Mr. Weber's objections.
And of Obama's involvement in the activities of a group whoseboard he chaired:
Mr. Ayers founded CAC and was its guiding spirit....Mr.Ayers sat as an ex-officio member of the board Mr. Obama chairedthrough CAC's first year. He also served on the board's governancecommittee with Mr. Obama, and worked with him to craft CAC bylaws.Mr. Ayers made presentations to board meetings chaired by Mr.Obama. Mr. Ayers spoke for the Collaborative before the board.Likewise, Mr. Obama periodically spoke for the board at meetings ofthe Collaborative.
Kurtz's conclusion:
The Obama campaign has cried foul when Bill Ayers comes up, claiming "guilt by association." Yet the issue here isn't guilt by association; it's guilt by participation. As CAC chairman, Mr.Obama was lending moral and financial support to Mr. Ayers and his radical circle.
Kurtz makes some references in the article to the Obama camp's pushback, and discusses it (including reprinting the Obama campaign's full response) here, including completing the connection of the dots inObama's involvement in setting up and funding Ayers'activities:
In the first year, 1995, Obama headed the board, whichmade fiscal decisions, and Ayers co-chaired the Collaborative, which set education policy. During that first year, Obama's formalresponsibilities mandated close cooperation and coordination withthe Collaborative. As board chair and president of the CACcorporation, Obama was authorized to "delegate to the Collaborativethe development of collaborative projects and programs . . . to obtain assistance of the Collaborative in the development of requests for proposals . . . and to seek advice from the Collaborative regarding the programmatic aspects of grant proposals." All this clearly involves significant consultationbetween the board, headed by Obama, and the Collaborative, co-chaired by Ayers.
Bear in mind the timeline - this is precisely the time at which Obama was launching his political career (including a meeting atAyers' home), signing a contract to support the platform of the Marxist New Party, representing ACORN as its lawyer, and receiving the support and active participation, in return, of ACORN and similar of left-wing groups as ground troops in hiscampaigns. Tom Maguire looks at how far back Obama's relationship with Ayers goes. I continue to be amazed that any civilized person could associate with this terrorist, much less allocate money to give him a role in educating children. But then, recall the words of theChicago Democratic Socialists of America, writing in 2000:
Barak Obama is serving only his second term in the Illinois State Senate so he might be fairly charged with ambition, but the same might have be said of Bobby Rush when he ran against Congressman Charles Hayes. Obama also has put in time at the grassroots, working for five years as a community organizer in Harlem and in Chicago. When Obama participated in a 1996 Uof C YDS Townhall Meeting on Economic Insecurity, much of what he had to say was well within the mainstream of European social democracy.
And of course, besides funding Ayers, Obama once in office was essentially letting groups like PlannedParenthood essentially write sex education bills - not a group as overtly outside the mainstream as Ayers, but consistent with Obama's overall Illinois record as a hard-core left-wing culture warrior looking to empower the whole menagerie of left-wing interest groups (headed by other "communityorganizers" just like Obama himself) with funding and sway over government. Kurtz, who has followed similar stories for years, explains how all of this is symptomatic of the broader left-wingcultural and educational program:
[T]he story of modern philanthropy is largely the story of moderate and conservative donors finding their funds "captured"by far more liberal, often radical, beneficiaries. CAC's story is aclassic of the genre. Ayers and Obama guided CAC money to community organizers, like ACORN (the Association of Community Organizationsfor Reform Now) and the Developing Communities Project (Part of the Gamaliel Foundation network), groups self-consciously working in the radical tradition of Saul Alinsky....
Of course, you don't go to a group like the Annenberg Challenge with an explicit promise to promote left-wing radicalism, and you don't pick Bill Ayers as the front man to deal with the donors. You pick someone smoother, less of a known commodity...you pick Barack Obama. In 1995, it was Obama's job to put a pleasant, respectable face on a fundamentally left-wing project.
Not much has changed since then, has it?

Bill Ayers Gives Exclusive Interview to "Good Morning America"
by Janet CrainBill Ayers is now a "school reformer" and that sounds about as innocent as "community organizer" until you learn what it actually entails. And how his Marxist ideas are making inroads into the USA public schools. Please click on the links below to learn about his connection to Chavez.

William Ayers gives exclusive interview to "Good Morning America"
Ayers' past associations with President-elect Barack Obama became a campaign issue. This is Ayers' first interview since the election.
Ayers was a founder of the Weather Undeground, a radical group that set bombs to protest the Vietnam War. Because of Ayers, Gov. Sarah Palin complained that Obama did "pal around with terrorists who targeted their own country."
Sen. John McCain described Ayers and wife Bernardine Dohrn as "two washed-up terrorists that are unrepentant about trying to destroy America."
These days, Ayers is a school-reform advocate and a professor of education at the University of Illinois at Chicago. He is also an author, and his 2001 memoir "Fugitive Days" has been reissued. Ayers and Obama live in the same neighborhood, have sat on the same boards and are friendly. But Obama also condemned the violence and noted that he was just 8 years old when it happened.*
"GMA" airs from 7 to 9 a.m. on WFTV-Channel 9.

*Never-the-less Obama was a grown man when he shared an office with Ayers for three years, when he endorsed Ayers book, complete with picture and glowing recommendation and when he was launched on his political career in Chicago in Ayers living room.
Maybe I'll invite him to dinner at the Whitehouse."

Catholic Donations Meant for Charity Went to ACORN
The Catholic Connection to Barack Obama
Do you wonder why 2008 election data shows that the majority of Catholics voted for Barack Obama even though his record as Illinois state senator proves him the most pro-abortion candidate who ever ran for president?
Perhaps one answer is that on the Sunday before Thanksgiving, millions of Catholics will again be putting in their church's collection plate their annual donation to what the pre-printed envelope calls "Campaign for Human Development: The Catholic Church working to end poverty and injustice in America; We'll turn your dollars into hope for the poor of our nation."
The generous Catholics who respond to that well-phrased appeal probably think they are making a Good Samaritan gift to provide necessaries to the down-and-out. Most would probably be shocked to learn that the money donated to the Campaign for Human Development (CHD) does not go for charity but for radical Obama-style community organizing.
Over the last 10 years, CHD has given $7.3 million of Catholic-donated dollars to the Saul Alinsky-style group called ACORN (Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now). When in 1998 some Catholics complained that CHD grants were not used for Catholic charity but were actually funding groups opposed to church teachings, CHD changed its name to Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD).
The name change did not redirect the flow of money. In 2007 alone, CCHD increased its support of ACORN, giving it 37 grants totaling $1,037,000.
During 2007 and 2008, ACORN and its affiliated organizations were aggressively registering what it claimed were 1.3 million poor people. ACORN focused on new registrations in the key toss-up states of Ohio, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Florida.
You can listen on YouTube to clips from ACORN's national convention and decide for yourself how partisan it is.
CCHD knew how ACORN spent its money. CCHD's executive director, Ralph McCloud, admitted to Catholic News Service that "some of the funds that the Catholic Campaign contributed to ACORN in the past undoubtedly were used for voter registration drives."
Saul Alinsky explained his community organizing tactics in his book "Rules for Radicals." His game plan was to divide the community into the Haves and the Have Nots, make the Have Nots believe they are unjustly treated by the Haves, build resentment against the American social and economic system, use church congregations to mobilize street agitators, and lobby government for higher taxes and big-spending welfare programs in order to confiscate the wealth and power of the Haves and turn it over to the Have Nots.
Alinsky dedicated his book to Lucifer, "the first radical known to man who rebelled against the establishment and did it so effectively that he at least won his own kingdom."

Mr. Paulson said the administration would continue to use $250 billion of the program to purchase stock in banks as a way to bolster their balance sheets and encourage them to resume more normal lending. Instead of saying he would ferret out these cowardly anonymous harpies, fire them and see to it their reputations were ruined, he said the following:
Senator John McCain: She understands all the energy issues. There’s a $40 billion pipeline coming to bring natural gas to places like California. And so look, she’s a marvelous person.
Jay Leno: Now, these aides that were criticizing her — and I think everyone agrees there were Republican aides who were criticizing her. I know you wouldn’t go for that. I know you’re an old soul. You don’t let people talk — but why?
Senator John McCain: One — these things happen in campaigns too. It’s — these things go on in campaigns, and you just –
Jay Leno: Why don’t we just move on.Senator John McCain: I’m just very proud to have had Sarah Palin and her family, a wonderful family.
Later on he and Jay Leno joked about taking Lieberman to Neiman-Marcus to buy him a nice suit. OK, I know he has been advised to just move on, let this go and it will die a natural death. But I don't know who is advising him. Hasn't he listened to enough bad advice lately?

Most Transparent Transition in History Ushered in With a Camera Blackout

Washington lobbyists on Obama transition; "most open" transition fund-raising details
Lynn Sweeton November 12, 2008 7:36 AM
WASHINGTON -- President-elect Barack Obama's transition co-chairman John Podesta pledged Tuesday "to make this the most open and transparent transition in history." Meanwhile, let's see if the Obama team provides more than the legal minimum when it comes to details on how private money is being raised to help bankroll the transition operation.
The headquarters transition offices are housed in a government-owned building in downtown Washington.
Podesta's briefing drew RSVPs from more than 200 journalists, so many that the transition arranged for a listen-only conference call -- in order to pare down the number of reporters actually attending.
Still, about 140 showed up to see Podesta, a former Clinton White House chief of staff, standing behind a podium flanked with flags.

Did the Media Trash Sarah Palin Because She Did Not Abort Her Down Syndrome Child?

Barone said in an e-mail that he "was attempting to be humorous and ... went over the line."Barone was speaking at the Palmer House Hilton in Chicago, to the 121st annual meeting of the National Association of State Universities and Land Grant Colleges, which calls itself the nation’s oldest higher-education association. “The liberal media attacked Sarah Palin because she did not abort her Down syndrome baby," Barone said, according to accounts by attendees. "They wanted her to kill that child. ... I'm talking about my media colleagues with whom I've worked for 35 years.” Barone, a popular speaker on the paid lecture circuit, is a senior writer for U.S. News & World Report and principal coauthor of “The Almanac of American Politics." About 500 people were in the room, and some walked out. Barone did not dispute the accounts of his remarks. Asked about the comments, Barone said in an e-mail that he "was attempting to be humorous and, as many in public do, went over the line."
"Sorry for that," Barone said. "I was trying to focus on press hostility to Palin. I agree with [Washington Post media reporter and CNN 'Reliable Sources' host] Howard Kurtz that the press was much more interested in tracking down negative information on Palin than Obama." Palin’s youngest child, her son Trig, was born in April. Televised shots of him during her convention speech helped endear her to conservatives. During the campaign, she said she would use the vice presidency to help families with special-needs children.

Minnesota Ripe for Election Fraud

Minnesota is becoming to 2008 politics what Florida was in 2000 or Washington State in 2004 -- a real mess. The outcome will determine whether Democrats get 58 members of the U.S. Senate, giving them an effective filibuster-proof vote on many issues.
When voters woke up on Wednesday morning after the election, Senator Norm Coleman led Al Franken by what seemed like a relatively comfortable 725 votes. By Wednesday night, that lead had shrunk to 477. By Thursday night, it was down to 336. By Friday, it was 239. Late Sunday night, the difference had gone down to just 221 -- a total change over 4 days of 504 votes.
Amazingly, this all has occurred even though there hasn’t even yet been a recount. Just local election officials correcting claimed typos in how the numbers were reported. Counties will certify their results today, and their final results will be sent to the secretary of state by Friday. The actual recount won’t even start until November 19.
Correcting these typos was claimed to add 435 votes to Franken and take 69 votes from Coleman. Corrections were posted in other races, but they were only a fraction of those for the Senate. The Senate gains for Franken were 2.5 times the gain for Obama in the presidential race count, 2.9 times the total gain that Democrats got across all Minnesota congressional races, and 5 times the net loss that Democrats suffered for all state House races.
Virtually all of Franken’s new votes came from just three out of 4130 precincts, and almost half the gain (246 votes) occurred in one precinct -- Two Harbors, a small town north of Duluth along Lake Superior -- a heavily Democratic precinct where Obama received 64 percent of the vote. None of the other races had any changes in their vote totals in that precinct.
To put this change in perspective, that single precinct’s corrections accounted for a significantly larger net swing in votes between the parties than occurred for all the precincts in the entire state for the presidential, congressional, or state house races.
The two other precincts (Mountain Iron in St. Louis county and Partridge Township in Pine county) accounted for another 100 votes each. The change in each precinct was half as large as the pickup for Obama from the corrections for the entire state.
The Minneapolis Star Tribune attributed these types of mistakes to “exhausted county officials,” and that indeed might be true, but the sizes of the errors in these three precincts are surprisingly large.
(excerpted)
With ACORN filing more than 43,000 registration forms this year, 75 percent of all new registrations in the state, Minnesota was facing vote fraud problems even before the election. Even a small percentage of those registrations resulting in fraudulent votes could tip this election.
To many, it just seems like too much of a coincidence that Minnesota's one tight race just happens to be the race with the most "corrected" votes by far. But the real travesty will be to start letting election officials divine voter's intent. If you want to discourage people from voting, election fraud is one sure way of doing it.

Pulling 'Em Back Out From Under the Bus

Barack Obama sacks adviser in May over talks with Hamas Now He's Back InMalley's Father Was Close Personal Friend of Yasser Arafat
One of Barack Obama’s Middle East policy advisers disclosed yesterday that he had held meetings with the militant Palestinian group Hamas – prompting the likely Democratic nominee to sever all links with him.
Robert Malley told The Times that he had been in regular contact with Hamas, which controls Gaza and is listed by the US State Department as a terrorist organisation. Such talks, he stressed, were related to his work for a conflict resolution think-tank and had no connection with his position on Mr Obama’s Middle East advisory council.
“I’ve never hidden the fact that in my job with the International Crisis Group I meet all kinds of people,” he added.
Ben LaBolt, a spokesman for Mr Obama, responded swiftly: “Rob Malley has, like hundreds of other experts, provided informal advice to the campaign in the past. He has no formal role in the campaign and he will not play any role in the future.” The rapid departure of Mr Malley followed 48 hours of heated clashes between John McCain, the Republican nominee-elect, and Mr Obama over Middle East policy.
Obama spokesman, Ben LaBolt in May of 2008, after Robert Malley, a Middle East policy adviser to Obama, disclosed that he had held meetings with the militant Palestinian group, Hamas.
"Aides said President-elect Obama had sent senior foreign policy adviser Robert Malley to Egypt and Syria to outline the Democratic candidate's policy on the Middle East. The aides said Malley... relayed a pledge from Obama that the United States would seek to reconcile with Damascus... regarded by the Bush administration as a leading supporter of the Al Qaida insurgency in Iraq...."
World Tribune - November 5, 2008

A little family history may be in order to understand the genesis of Robert Malley's views. Normally, one should be reluctant in exploring a person's family background -- after all, who would want to be held responsible for the sins of one's father? However, when close relatives share a strong current of ideological affinity, and when a father has a commanding persona, it behooves a researcher to inquire a bit into the role of family in forming views. That said, Robert Malley has a very interesting father.
His father Simon Malley was born to a Syrian family in Cairo and at an early age found his métier in political journalism. He participated in the wave of anti-imperialist and nationalist ideology that was sweeping the Third World. He wrote thousands of words in support of struggle against Western nations. In Paris, he founded the journal Afrique Asie; he and his magazine became advocates for "liberation" struggles throughout the world, particularly for the Palestinians.
Simon Malley loathed Israel and anti-Israel activism became a crusade for him-as an internet search would easily show. He spent countless hours with Yasser Arafat and became a close friend of Arafat. He was, according to Daniel Pipes, a sympathizer of the Palestinian Liberation Organization --- and this was when it was at the height of its terrorism wave against the West . His efforts were so damaging to France that President Valerie d'Estaing expelled him from the country.

Sarah Palin will sit down for her first post-election interview with FOX News Channel's Greta Van Susteren.
Van Susteren will be traveling to Alaska for an extensive interview with the state's governor, which will air Monday at 10 p.m. ET on the FOX News Channel.
Fox News beat out several other networks to be the first to talk with Palin after her failed vice presidential bid, including requests by Barbara Walters, Oprah Winfrey, Larry King and others.
Palin is coming off a whirlwind nine weeks of almost nonstop travel and campaigning since becoming John McCain's running mate in late August. The governor has returned to her home state, where she said she is looking forward to getting back to her day job.

Obama to use executive orders for immediate impact

WASHINGTON — President-elect Obama plans to use his executive powers to make an immediate impact when he takes office, perhaps reversing Bush administration policies on stem cell research and domestic drilling for oil and natural gas.
John Podesta, Obama's transition chief, said Sunday Obama is reviewing President Bush's executive orders on those issues and others as he works to undo policies enacted during eight years of Republican rule. He said the president can use such orders to move quickly on his own.
"There's a lot that the president can do using his executive authority without waiting for congressional action, and I think we'll see the president do that," Podesta said. "I think that he feels like he has a real mandate for change. We need to get off the course that the Bush administration has set."
